As you can see a very busy weekend in Belfast produced some fine results for the Willows under 12 squad.
Day 1 saw us pitched against the eventual winners Ballywalter and East Antrim (semi finalists).
The score in these matches does not reflect in any way the way Willows played.
In these games Willows held their own for most of the match , and considering these teams are graded much higher than ourselves the lads deserve all the praise that was given to them on the day.
It was great however to get the win against Carrick.
The shield on Saturday was going to be a more realistic goal.
We started well with a draw against Ballybrack. It was a fair result. The next game was against St. Pats. After going a goal down Willows dug in and pulled back a goal and went 3-1 up within minutes.
Pats pulled a goal back but Willows sealed it with seconds left.
At this stage killester had won 2 matches so this meant that our game against them was like a final.
We started well and were unlucky to be down 0-1 at half time. However the fact that they are 3 leagues above us started to show and although they ran out 4-0 winners Willows showed that they can live with the stronger teams.
In the final game the lads who were visibly tired ,
at this stage pulled themselves together and
produced a fine result 2-0 against a Carrick side
that had taken a few scalps that day.
A couple more goals would have given us runners up but it wasn't to be.
I would like to thank the WHOLE squad for their time and their patience and also for the way they carried themselves both on and off the pitch.
They are a credit to their families, club and most of all to themselves.Well Done.
Thanks also to all the families that came to Belfast it was really
appreciated.
